What is the Culminating Project?
Beginning with the Class of 2008, the State of Washington requires that all students complete a Culminating Project. With its many components, timelines, and rubrics, the project will be completed over four years in high school. The Kent School District has tailored the Culminating Project to further reflect the expectations and mission of the entire school district. Many of the requirements of the Culminating Project are assignments and activities that Kentridge students are already doing as a result of their classroom work, community involvement, and school activities, but this is a formal compilation of the work done by students.
Students at Kentridge will save all of their work in an electronic portfolio, called eFOLIO, which they can access from home. They will also have access to it year-round, and even for several years after their graduation from KR.
Students will be guided through the requirements by staff during Advisory class, but most elements will be completed on a student’s own time. If students complete each component as outlined each year, this project will not be an overwhelming “senior project” but will truly be a reflection of a student’s learning and best work from his/her high school career.
The trainer/resource person for eFOLIO, the web-based electronic portfolio, is Karla Huston. Resource person for Career Components: Shellese Gourley, Career Counselor. Administrator in charge: Molly King.
